Consultation To Therapists

"The desire to reach for the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise."

- Maya Angelou

I offer consultation/supervision to therapists who wish to deepen their psychotherapy skills. Themes in consultation/supervision emerge from a focus of close attention to what is happening in the room between the therapist and the client. We look at issues of transference, countertransference, intersubjectivity, resistance, defense mechanisms , technique, how to work with the client’s strengths, the importance of empathy in understanding the client’s experience, the importance of establishing safety in the therapeutic relationship and building the therapeutic alliance.

I have had spent many hours with consultants along the way when I wished to strengthen my skills in a particular therapeutic modality or try to better understand someone I was seeing and learn to work with them more effectively. These hours spent in consultation with a more senior therapist were extremely beneficial.

I see therapists in individual consultation or sometimes a pair of therapists or a pre-formed group of therapists will seek consultation together and share the time. I am flexible about how often we will meet and for how long. Typically, individual consultations are 45 minute sessions and shared consultation with another therapist is for 60 minutes. I generally meet with pre-formed groups of therapists for 75 or 90 minutes.
